Bansko is Bulgaria’s biggest ski resort with a skiing season lasting from 15 December to 15 May. The ski runs of all difficulty levels are located in 2 main ski centres – Chalin Valog (1100-1600 metres) and Shiligarnika (1700-2500 metres above sea level), on the northern slopes of the Pirin. They are easily accessible from Bansko within a 25-minutes ride on the gondola lift. The first snowboard fun park on the Balkans can be found in the Shiligarnika ski area, where boarders can build their own jumps and every day skiers and boarders can take part in competitions.

Travel information
By bus or train Buses and trains are the easiest way to get to Bulgaria from Europe and Turkey, with frequent services from Greece, Yugoslavia, Macedonia, Albania, Istanbul, Prague and Western Europe. When you enter Bulgaria by car you must state which border crossing you'll be using when you leave and pay a road tax. If traveling from Sophia to Bansko the hotel recommends going by car rather than train as the train takes an enormous detour and considerably more time. However, if you do have the spare time the scenery is magnificent and takes you through the highest train station in the Balkans.

Bansko ski resort is situated in South-Western Bulgaria in the foot hills of the beautiful Pirin mountain. The Pirin mountain is a natural reserve included in the World Natural Heritage list. The distance between Sofia and Bansko is 170 km. Transfer time by car from Sofia International Airport to Bansko is 2 hours.
Bansko area
Bansko's nightlife is excellent with several bars, nightclubs and restaurants. The traditional taverns 'Mehana' offer great local cuisine and folk music. Nightlife goes onto the early hours of the morning.
The town itself also attracts visitors to its numerous cultural monuments, its museums and exhibions. The Holy Trinity church with its 30 m high bell tower and clock, splendid murals and woodcarvings can be found in the centre of town.
In the summer Bansko is host to a traditional Summer Jazz Festival,the Bulgarian Folk Festival and many other cultural events. The town also provides a great base for white water rafting, horse riding, walking, biking and a soon to be opened golf course designed by Ian Woosnam.
